Logo Contest

We are holding a contest to design new logos for STAT and Shore Leave.

  • Submissions are due at the January meeting (Sunday, January 10).
  • Entries will be presented to the club in February.
  • We are seeking separate logos for STAT and Shore Leave.
  • The contest is not limited to STAT members (it’s open to the public).
  • All submissions become property of STAT.
  • The contest will be advertised on the STAT web site.

Guidelines:

  • Should be usable for both print and T-shirts.
  • The STAT logo should be suitable for letterhead.
  • Avoid small details and shading
  • Logos should be scalable from 1 ½” x 1 ½” up to 8 ½” x 11″.
  • Line art may have an advantage.
  • Logos should be Science Fiction themed.

December meeting and Holiday Party

Instead of meeting at the lodge this month, the December meeting will take place at the TItled Kilt and will be followed immediately by the holiday party. (We’ll be back at the lodge in January.)

The meeting is at 1:00pm on Sunday, December 6 and the Tilted Kilt is located at 8133 Honeygo Blvd, Nottingham, MD 21236.

Bruce Hyde

We are saddened by the pasing of actor Bruce Hyde. Hyde was best known to fans as Lieutenant Kevin Riley in The Original Series episodes “The Conscience of the King” and “The Naked Time.” In addition to acting on TV and the stage, he was professor emeritus of communication studies at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, teaching both acting and communications. In 1987 he was a guest at Shore Leave 9.

Bruce Hyde passed away on October 13, 2015. He is survived by his wife Dr. Susan M. Saetre.

STAT and BSFS are co-sponsoring a Fan Film Night

The Star Trek Association of Towson (STAT) and the Baltimore Science Fiction Society (BSFS) are co-sponsoring a Fan Film Night on October 3, 2015 at the BSFS building.

On October 3, 2015 at 7:00pm the Baltimore Science Fiction Society (BSFS) and the Star Trek Association of Towson (STAT) will sponsor a Star Trek Fan Film night featuring the Star Trek New Voyages episodes: World Enough and Time (which guest stars George Takei) and Blood and Fire Parts 1 and 2 (written and directed by well-known science fiction writer David Gerrold).

This event will be held at the BSFS Building, 3310 East Baltimore Street, Baltimore Maryland (directions at www.bsfs.org/bsfsdrct.htm) and projected on the 10ft screen inside Kelly Hall with theater sound. The Passing of Leonard Nimoy

In Memoriam: Leonard Nimoy

We are saddened by the passing of Leonard Nimoy. Although he was perhaps best known for the role of “Mister Spock” throughout Star Trek’s various incarnations, his acting credits included more than 130 movie and television roles, in adition to directing, writing and producing. He was also an accomplished photographer, author, poet and singer. He was a guest last year at Shore Leave 36.

Leonard Nimoy passed away on February 27, 2015. He is survived by his wife Susan as well as his children and grandchildren.
