SAG Letter to Agents re: Convention Appearances

Based on the information we have received related to Creation Entertainment's upcoming "Star Trek"-themed convention, we are convinced that this convention is wholly independent of Paramount and its affiliates.

Performers are free to honor their contract with that convention and to participate subject to our general limitations and guidelines relating to convention participation. We will be posting an FAQ relating to conventions, including single-fandom conventions, on SAGAFTRAStrike.org shortly, but following are a few guidelines to keep in mind for now:

Autographs: Performers should plan to sign headshots or similar photos during autograph signings. The photos should not depict them as a character from struck work. They should avoid writing or including mention of characters or quotes from struck projects. Personal quotes are fine. If fans bring photos or memorabilia from struck work, the performers are free to sign them. However, they should avoid writing or including mention of the character or quotes from the project.

Panels / Q&As: You and/or your clients should speak to the event organizer and/or panel moderators ahead of time regarding what kinds of questions are okay during the strike.

The event organizer and panel moderators should strictly enforce a policy that they will not ask or allow questions about struck work. General topics are fine, such as about the acting process, why they wanted to be an actor, what they like/dislike about working in the industry, and the like. They should avoid discussing characters from struck work or work for struck companies.

We are in the process of scheduling an agent's meeting relating to conventions for later this week.
